i am in my early 30s and am temporarily disabled. My review is
supposed to be later this year. I believe whenever my case is reviewed
I will be deemed permanently disabled but I don't know. I'd love to
go back to work when it is possible. Anyway I only mention it because
it might help when someone is evaluating my question.
My fiancee' is also disabled (she is already in permanent status for a
few years).
She has had a full hysterectomy and has a daughter. I have no
children. I have had the thought swirling around lately that it might
be nice to have a kid of my own. Her daughter is 19 and out of the
house. My fiance is older than I am so that is why her daughter is
already 19 even though I am only 32. People know there is no way I can
be my fiancee's daughters' father. (People say I look older than my
fiancee'... She loves that... lol)
Anyway, with all that out of the way, the question is what is the
procedure (if any) for two disabled people to look at adopting? Is it
frowned upon by the agencies? Are there laws that are pro and/or con
my situation. If it matters I am in Iowa.
I am buying a home. (the SSA tells my more often disabled people are
doing that now. Our mortgage is less than forty dollars more than the
rent and rent insurance was..) I only mention that because it might
show stability to an agency. I dunno if that matters when we are
disabled.
Since my fiancee' cannot have more kids, I suppose apodtion is the
only option (other than using a "sample" from me and an egg from an
anonymous female. AND having someone carry the baby.)
Anyway any input is appreciated. I couldn't find ANYTHING on the web.
I found stuff about adoting disabled adults, that is all.
